Adahlia to dance in The Nutcracker!
… and her classmates are coming!
I am so excited to share that next week Adahlia will be dancing (for the second year in a row) in the Columbia Classical Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker!
This year, she will be a Party Girl and a Bon-Bon.
We adore our dance studio (Palmetto Conservatory of Dance) for its positive role-modeling, professionalism, and body-positive approach to ballet.
And I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY that her classmates are coming!
On November 18, I sent her principal an email letting him know that Adahlia would be in the Nutcracker with the Columbia Classical Ballet, that they were doing outreach performances on Dec 1st/2nd at 10 am, and that these performances offered low-cost tickets to schools so their kids could have an opportunity to experience the arts.
They immediately responded that they’d LOVE to send the ENTIRE 4th grade split over the two days - which means two homerooms (50 kids) to attend on Thursday and the other two homerooms to attend on Friday - provided that Adahlia would be dancing both days.
They bought 100 tickets the same day! I couldn’t believe it.
They laughingly said, “Well, you sent the email, so we got it done!” when I came to pick her up from school.
Adahlia is so excited. She won’t be able to dance next year due to bone marrow transplant, so this is obviously a HUGE deal for her.
I’m SO grateful that her teachers and friends are able to come support her, that her school is willing to send her ENTIRE grade to see the ballet, that the amazing international troupe of professional ballerinas she’ll be dancing with offers outreach for schools, and in general, I’m just amazed that something so wonderful can happen so quickly and easily.
Feeling grateful, overcome, and teary for all the best sorts of reasons.
But wait, there’s more: I’ll be dancing too (shhh!)
Okay, this is actually a bit embarrassing, but the truth remains that I am actually SO EXCITED to be able to share in the magic of The Nutcracker with Adahlia on-stage!
It’s been a solid 30 years since I danced on pointe, but I’ve been taking adult ballet lessons again just for fun.
And even though the potential for mortification is huge - I am thrilled to say that Adahlia and I are going to get to be on stage with Adahlia as one of the Party Parents.
You’ll see us cross the stage as part of a Party Family - we even have a dog!
And then, yes, I do dance a little bit. LOL.
It’s very fun.
And very silly, if you think about it…
But incredibly, wonderfully, magically SPECIAL.
We are the only mother-daughter pair in the whole performance!
Come see us dance with the amazing professional ballerinas of the Columbia Classical Ballet in The Nutcracker at the Koger Center for the Performing Arts in Columbia, SC on:

Sat: Dec 5 @ 2 pm
